A ride with friends along Los Gatos Creek Trail leads to a cross-country bicycle journey

Landscape designer Candice Stein enjoys weekly trail rides with her friends, the "Bikerbabes". She recently celebrated her 60th birthday by riding from California to Florida. Along the journey, she saw some amazing trails and communities. Reflecting on that trip, she remains impressed by how lucky we are in San José to have so many great and diverse trail experiences at our doorsteps.

Council Member commutes from District 2 via Highway 87 Bikeway
November 25, 2008
Council Member Forrest Williams borrowed a bike for the annual Bike to Work Day and commuted to City Hall. He spent the next Saturday searching for a bike at garage sales in District 2. After six months of bike commuting, Mr. Williams says, "I enjoy meeting friendly people along the trails, doing my part to reduce pollution and I feel good about getting more physically fit.”

She's Got a ticket to ride - to work

This Mercury news article outlines the story of Shiloh Ballard who bikes along the Highway 87 Bikepath to Silicon Valley Leadership Group where she is director of housing and community programs. The article notes that "In the first year of bicycling, research shows, the average person loses 13 pounds. And just three hours a week reduces risk of heart disease and stroke by 50 percent."

Engineer uses trails to reduce environmental impact and stay in shape
December 19, 2007
Stephen Boniface is an engineer with Cisco Systems in North San José. Two to three times per week, he uses San José’s trail network to get to work, stay in shape and personally reduce his impact on the environment. His 45 minute bike ride lets him enjoy the Lower Guadalupe River Trail and River Oaks Parkway.
