* Coyote Creek Trail within Selma Olinder Park was partially funded through a grant from the Santa Clara Valley Water District.

Description: The Coyote Creek Trail is one of the network's longest trail systems and connects to County reaches of the same trail system.  Several City and County parks can be accessed from the trail. The Coyote Creek Trail provides views of the waterway and the riparian environment. The gravel portion of the trail north of Montague Expressway connects to the Highway 237 Bikeway.  In addition to the local environment, trail users can enjoy the artwork "Ripple Effect and Run River Run."  at the midpoint between Montague Expressway and Tasman Drive.  The paved section south of Hellyer Park is great for biking and rollerblading as well as walking. Access the trail from several points, including Stonegate Park along Tuers Road or from the County's Hellyer Park.

The County’s web site, www.parkhere.org provides maps of the reaches within its jurisdiction.

ACTIVE PROJECTS

  • Construction Update (Los Lagos Golf Course to Tully Road)

Several years ago, City staff conducted a series of public meetings to master plan the Coyote Creek Trail north of Los Lagos Golf Course.  Since that time, the City has secured environmental clearance and completed construction drawings for a half mile extension.  Construction is now underway between the Golf Course and Tully Road.  The resulting project will include over 2,500 ft of new paved trail that will meander along the east bank of the creek within Stonegate Park, pass behind the police department’s horse stables, and meander through open space near the Tully Road Ball Fields.  Like all new trail projects, Tully Road will benefit from stone entry columns to increase awareness of the trail system and add additional character to the neighborhood.  The project should be open to the public by August 2009.

  • Design Update (Story Road to Phelan Avenue)

Kelley Park is currently under redevelopment - the regional park is being substantially enhanced with a larger zoo, additional parking and many new attractions.  The Coyote Creek Trail will some day pass through the park.  Design work has been completed to the 35% stage and efforts are on-going to secure the necessary funds to complete the documents and award a construction contract.  The alignment passes along the east side of the creek.

  • Master Planning Update (Highway 237 to Story Road)

The City is master planning approximately 9 miles of the trail system at this time.  Because we will be adhering to the federal environmental process, we will be more competitive for a broader number of funding sources.
