  1. Can I make a reservation for a picnic? 

  2. Reservations can be made for picnics in regional parks.  For information on reservable picnic areas in regional parks, please call (408) 27PARKS (or 408-277-2757). 

    All picnic areas in neighborhood parks are non-reservable and available only on a first come, first serve basis.

    Parks may occasionally be reserved for community-serving public events.  This kind of use requires a Special Use Permit.  Special Use Permits, however, are not available for private parties in parks.

     

  3. What are park hours?

  4. Regional Parks are open daily from 8:00 a.m. to half an hour after sunset.

     

    Neighborhood parks are open daily from sunrise to one hour after sunset.

     

  5. What is the address of a given park?

  6. Regional Parks have mailing addresses although Neighborhood Parks do not. All park locations are typically referred to by giving the closest cross streets to the main park entrance.

  7. Can I have an air jumper at a park?

  8. No air jumpers are allowed at regional parks, except for Lake Cunningham.  To have an air jumper at Lake Cunningham, a picnic reservation must be made.

     

    For neighborhood parks, where air jumpers are allowed, a permit must be obtained and displayed on the air jumper the day of the event.  Currently, a permit is issued for one air jumper in a park per day. 

    Air jumpers are not allowed at the following parks: 

    Almaden Lake Park
    Kelley Park
    Alum Rock Park
    Marijane Hamann Park
    Raymond Bernal Jr. Memorial Park
    Municipal Rose Garden
    Brenda Lopez Plaza
    Nancy Lane Plaza
    Cathedral Oaks Park
    O'Connor Park
    Century Oaks Park
    Overfelt Gardens Park
    Columbus Park
    Parque del los Pobladores
    Edenvale Garden Park
    Plaza de Cesar Chavez
    Emma Prusch Farm Park
    Saratoga Creek Park
    Guadalupe Oak Grove Park
    Scenic Meadows Park
    Guadalupe River Park and Gardens
    St. James Park
    Hacienda Park
    Willow Street-Frank Bramhall Park
    Hummingbird Park
    Other facilities with 'Tot Lot' or 'Youth Lot' in their names

  12. Neighborhood Parks: alcohol is not allowed..

     

    Beer and wine are allowed in picnic areas at the following regional parks:

    Almaden Lake Park

    Alum Rock Park

    Kelley Park

    Lake Cunningham Park

    Alcohol is not allowed at the following regional parks:

    Edenvale Garden Park

    Emma Prusch Farm Park

    Guadalupe River Park and Gardens

    Municipal Rose Garden

    Overfelt Gardens Park

     

  13. Can I reserve a sports field?

  14. Yes, you can reserve a sports fields by contacting Citywide Sports Field Reservations.  The office number is (408) 369-3907.

     

  15. What is the policy on dogs? Leash law? Does San José have a dog park?

  16. The San José Municipal Code has an Animal Regulations ordinance.  Please refer to Section 7.08 of the Municipal Code for answers to any questions not covered below. The Municipal Code can be found here: Municipal Code.

     

    For information, dogs should be on leash and kept under control at all times. Dog owners/walkers are expected to immediately clean up after their animals (removing all excrement made by their dogs).

     

    San José has a variety of dog park facilities available:

     

  • Delmas Dog Park located at Delmas & Park
  • Jeffrey Fontana Dog Park located at Miyuki Drive off Santa Teresa
  • Miyuki Dog Park located at Miyuki off Santa Teresa
  • Ryland Dog Park located at San Pedro & Ryland
  • Watson Dog Park located at E. Jackson & 22nd

  1. Where can I report a park maintenance concern?

  2. By email, send your concern to park.concerns@sanjoseca.gov or call (408) 793-5510 to make a report. If you need to report a park concern after business hours, please call the City's 24-hour Call Center at (408) 535-3500. Please provide your name and telephone number with your concern, in case we need to contact you for follow-up information.

     

  3. What recreation programs are going on at the park?

  5. How do I contact other public park agencies?

  7. Are water slides or dunk tanks allowed in neighborhood parks?

  8. Water slides and dunk tanks are not allowed in neighborhood parks because the excessive water and activity damages the turf.

     

  9. Are ponies allowed?

  10. Ponies are not allowed in San José parks.

     

  11. Can I bring my own barbecue to a park?

  12. Personal BBQ's are allowed in parks where cooking areas already exist.  Please use care and keep safety in mind when selecting the location to set up your personal BBQ (for example do not set up a BBQ under a tree where branches would be above the BBQ).  Charcoal is to be extinguished, removed from park property and properly disposed of.  BBQ's (cooking) are NOT allowed at Lincoln Glen or Parma Parks.   

     

  13. Can I bring my own portable restroom?
    Private portable restrooms are not allowed in San José parks.
