Others enjoy a nice family or company picnic and play volleyball, toss horseshoes and Bocce ball courts are available on a first come first serve basis, you will need to provide your own equipment. Court etiquette is expected.
Dogs are welcome on the eastside of the park and must remain on a leash and under control at all times. Owners are responsible for removing any excretement and disposing in a waste receptacle. A concession stand is open on a seasonal basis, and offers beverages, light foods, refreshments and rentals of pedal boats and life jackets. Tthere are large green open lawns and picnic areas with barbecue pits. Tot lots are located at both sides of the park and feature water play area.

Almaden Lake Park is San José's only park featuring an extensive sand beach and swim area, supervised by lifeguards. Visitors can enjoy a range of other water activities including fishing, boating (no power boats), windsurfing and paddle boating. Swimming may start as early as Memorial Day weekend and continue through Labor Day weekend. The swim area is open Wednesday through Sunday, closed Monday and Tuesday.

Beginning in the summer of 2009, there will be a nominal fee for swimming. Swim wrist bands will be available for purchase at the concession stand. Swimming is allowed only at the swim beach when lifeguards are on duty. A parking fee is charged when the parking booth is attended. Large inflatable toys may be restricted by the Lifeguards and inflatable arm floats are prohibited. All children must be attended by an adult when in or near the water. Diapers should not be worn by children to maintain water quality. Water quality is tested on a regular basis. The beach may be closed at any time for your safety. Fresh water showers are available for your use at the beach. A limited number of child-sized coast guard approved Personal Floatation Vests may be available for an additional fee.
Almaden Lake Park is closed Mondays until further notice.
No public entry is allowed; vehicles, pedestrians, equestrians, etc. are prohibited.
As part of the City of San Jose’s Budget Reduction Plan four of the City of San Jose’s regional parks, Alum Rock Park, Almaden Lake Park, Overfelt Gardens, and Prusch Farm Park, will close on Mondays beginning November 30, 2009. On park closure days, visitors, joggers and picnickers will be unable enter the selected sites and Los Alamitos trail users will be advised of an alternative route. Any affected park classes, tours, activities and events will be rescheduled. If rescheduling is not possible, the parties will be accommodated. Facilities will still be available for rent (i.e. corporate events, weddings) on Mondays. Park rangers will patrol to enforce the park closures and protect park security. Located in south San Jose, Almaden Lake Park is the only park featuring a sand beach and swim area in the South Bay. Many visitors come to relax and enjoy the recreational opportunities to fish along the shores of the 32 acres of lake, hike and bike in our beautiful 65 acre facility.
Almaden Lake Park is divided into two sides referred to as the Eastside, which runs parallel to Winfield Boulevard and the Westside of the park along Almaden Expressway. Dogs are not allowed on the Westside of the park as it is considered a wildlife sanctuary and the swim beach area must remain clean.
